Taylor Swift may have finally officially confirmed her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in her first interview in four years, but retired quarterback Tony Romo erroneously took things a step further this weekend.
Swift was in attendance at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday to witness the Chiefs falling to the Buffalo Bills, when Romo, who was commentating on the game, fumbled the ball. When Kelce made a notable play, Romo got a little carried away in his excitement, exclaiming, “As you see Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift in the audience—” He quickly corrected himself. “Or, I’m sorry, girlfriend.”
Fellow commentator Jim Nantz gently chided Romo: “Not yet! Unless you know something we don’t.”
As far as we know, the only rings in play at the moment are the one Kelce got for winning the Super Bowl last year, and the very cool vaguely snake-looking one Swift wore in photos of the game.
Swift’s now-regular presence at Chiefs games has drawn the attention of many, including, frequently, broadcast cameras. In her Person of the Year interview with TIME, the singer shook off allusions that she was pulling focus on purpose at the games, with no apologies for those who are annoyed.
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” she said. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once. I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
The Chiefs lost to the Bills by three points in a 20-17 outcome, and Swift and Kelce were spotted leaving the stadium hand in hand after the loss. Swift chose a vintage Chiefs sweatshirt for some spirited gameday attire, and Kelce’s olive green plaid pre-game getup was, fans pointed out, very Folklore-coded, whether he intended it or not. (For the record, Kelce, a certified Swiftie, has said his era of choice is 1989.)
Representatives for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
