When Rob McElhenney looks back on 2023, it’s all cheese and nuts. The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor, who also co-owns the Wrexham soccer club with Ryan Reynolds, kicked off a real snack of a New Year recap post on Instagram with a photo of himself in prosthetic makeup to fake a dramatic allergic reaction to nuts, but refreshed the vibe mid-carousel with some big cheesy grins alongside Prince Harry and Sunny costar Glenn Howerton.
“Aside from that slight allergic reaction to the nuts, 2023 was one of the best years of my life,” McElhenney captioned the photo post.
The snap of McElhenney, Howerton, and Prince Harry was taken back in September, when the trio met up to take in a match between InterMiami and Los Angeles FC at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium. (Notably, soccer superstar Lionel Messi took the field and led Miami to a victory.) Back then, the trio shared some smiley pics, but this is the first look at a shot we can refer to as “now take a silly one!”
This isn’t McElhenney’s first lap around the “hanging out with royals in a soccer—or as you may call it, football-related context” pitch. Last December, McElhenney and Reynolds met up with Harry’s father and stepmother, King Charles and Queen Camilla, for a tour of Wrexham Stadium. Since they purchased the club (the third-oldest professional club in the world) in 2020, McElhenney and Reynolds have redeveloped the North Wales stadium. The royal duo appear to have had a good time looking around the stadium and meeting players and club executives: Camilla liked the photos so much that she used one as the image for a thank you note to a well-wisher, notably cropping Reynolds out of the frame where he stood at Charles’ side.
Harry, meanwhile, has embraced his and wife Meghan Markle’s new life in California while still holding on to some favorite British pastimes, complete with soccer. Score!
