Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs may have won the football game Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, but it was Travis’ big brother Jason Kelce who won the attention of the world with his shirtless shenanigans in and around the VIP box where he watched alongside wife Kylie Kelce, mom Donna Kelce, and Taylor Swift, who is dating Travis and whom Jason was meeting for the first time.
On Wednesday’s episode of New Heights, the podcast the brothers co-host throughout the season, Jason recounted his “magical” experience in Buffalo. The 36-year-old center’s season with the Philadelphia Eagles ended with a post-season loss and retirement rumors. And how is a Super Bowl-winning father of three meant to unwind? By taking off his shirt in the most public way possible, no matter what his wife says, and no matter who’s there. On the podcast, Jason said that he hadn’t been able to watch Travis play in person for two years, but repeatedly stated that his goal was to get his shirt off. “Here’s what happened: I wanted to take my shirt off at the tailgate,” Jason said. “And we kinda got pushback on the tailgate front. I didn’t get to have my shirt off out there.”
Notably, he did get to take a shot out of a bowling ball at a Bills tailgate, though not without some difficulty. “No idea what that liquor was, I didn’t ask any questions,” he said. “Somebody hands you a bowling ball with a shot, the last thing I‘m [asking is] like, ‘oh, is this Crown Royale or?’ I’m not asking any questions. I did have to clarify how to drink it. Like, do I put this up to my mouth?”
Shots aside, Jason was still focused on the shirt issue because, as he said, “I feel like taking your shirt off is a Buffalo Bills thing.”
Once Jason and his wife made their way to their seats, a detailed plan solidified in his mind.
“When we got to the box, I noticed, hey, I can jump out of the box and I’ll be outside,” he said. “And if I take my shirt off, then I’m outside and I’m part of the Buffalo Bills pageantry. It was something about the entire day, I got caught up in the magic of the Bills Mafia. It was magic. The energy, the shenanigans, I’m like, I gotta have my shirt off at some point and I didn’t get to do it beforehand and I’m like, I can’t just take my shirt off in the box. Who takes their shirt off in the box? It’s heated. Like, you’re not really doing it. You’re just having your shirt off? So I’m like here’s what I’m gonna do, I’m taking my shirt off and I’m jumping out of this box, so then I’m out of the box and I have my shirt off and then I can be like my Buffalo Bills Mafia compadres.”
He took a breath, then added, “This is how my mind works after 40 Miller Lites.”
Travis, who was busy playing football at the time, called the footage “pure pandemonium,” and added, “There was not enough cameras on the suite where you could see Kylie though. I wanted to see her reaction to this so bad.”
About that. “I don’t think she was happy about it, to be honest with you,” Jason said of his wife. To be fair, she was warned—but then again, so was he. You see, Sunday was the first time Jason and Kylie were meeting Taylor Swift, who has been dating Travis since last July.
“I gave Kylie a heads up,” Jason said. “The moment we got into that suite, I said I’m taking my shirt off and I’m jumping out of that suite. And she said Jason, don’t you dare. And I said I’m just letting you know, I’m not asking for permission, I’m doing this.”
As the tape shows, he did, in fact, dare.
“She was already telling me to be on my best behavior because we were meeting Taylor, so she’s like do not–be on your best behavior,” Jason said. “I was like Kylie, the first day I met you I was blacked out drunk and I fell asleep at the bar. This is part of the charm, the Jason Kelce charm. I want to make my best first impression, this is my best chance.”
It’s like they say, begin as you mean to go on. According to Travis, however, the tactic worked.
“The best first impression is the worst impression ever, so you can just build from there,” Travis said, adding, “Tay says she absolutely loved you, so anyway.”
Jason did share a single regret about his behavior over the weekend. “I wish I would’ve stayed out there longer to get my nipples hard enough,” he said. “I wasn’t out there long enough to get my nipples going.”
The Chiefs are slated to play the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC Conference Championship on Sunday.
